I’m in my sky-blue pajamas, sleeping in my bed close to the wall with my right knee resting on it. I always like to sleep that way, like a lizard sticking to the wall.
Sound sleep. Suddenly, I feel something is off and I want to wake up. I try but my eyes wouldn’t open. My eyelids are heavier than the heaviest metal ball. I should be dead tired, after all the day’s work. Few more hours of sleep wouldn’t hurt.
Again, something is in the dark. Before I try to open my eyes, again, a slight panic sets in. I feel the ice cold breeze from the window, making the hairs on my hand and neck stand straight up. I remember closing the window before going to sleep.
With great difficulty I pry my eyes open. It is still dark. Everything is foggy. My eyes are fixated in the direction of the window, waiting for my vision to get clear. I want to sit up but I cannot move even a muscle but I don’t mind at this moment. All I want is to see what is wrong with the window.
Slowly the fog in my eyes clears. There is a figure sitting on the window sill from outside, holding the window rails, it’s eyes fixated on me. My heart jumps to my throat. It is a pitch black figure in rags. The face is nothing but cold eyes and bottomless shadow.
I want to scream but only muffled sounds comes out of my mouth, like something got stuck in my throat. The figure just sits there, staring at me. It doesn’t move. It doesn’t make a sound.
I still can’t move a muscle. Suddenly, I hear a different sound tearing away the silence. I shoot my eyes to the window only to see the figure trying to pull out the rails with its own hands. The sound of the rails against the wall synchronises with the ticking of the clock. A fresh wave of fear floods my heart. It is only a matter of seconds. With a loud bang, the rails comes off.
I’m in my sky-blue pajamas, sleeping in my bed close to the wall with my right knee resting on it. I open my eyes. The room is bright. The windows are closed.
It is a Good Morning!
